PRACTICAL GUIDE

How to use Split and Extract PDF

Last reviewed

Split a PDF into individual pages or extract only the pages you need. Page previews and selection controls run locally, which is useful when a document should not be sent to a third-party PDF service.

When this tool helps

  • Extract a chapter or selected form pages
  • Save every PDF page as a separate document
  • Remove unrelated pages before sharing a smaller copy

How to use it

  1. Choose one PDF and wait for its local page previews
  2. Select pages or enter a range such as 1-3, 5
  3. Choose one extracted PDF or a ZIP containing every page
  4. Process and download the new file while retaining the original

Extracting selected pages

Input
Pages 1-3 and 5 from an eight-page PDF
Result
One new four-page PDF in the selected page order

Extraction copies the selected pages into a new document; split-to-ZIP instead creates one PDF per source page.

Limits and assumptions

  • The PDF is limited to 100 MB and previews to 500 pages
  • Encrypted or damaged PDFs may not be readable
  • Page extraction does not edit text or redact content inside a page

Frequently asked questions

Is the PDF uploaded while it is split?

No. Page previews, extraction and ZIP creation happen locally in your browser.

What is the difference between extract and split?

Extract creates one PDF from selected pages. Split every page creates separate one-page PDFs in a ZIP archive.

Will the original PDF be changed?

No. The result is a new download and the original file remains untouched.
